“Oba of Benin Omo N’Oba Ewuare II, has tasked traditional rulers, priests, Enigie (dukes) and stakeholders in the state to use traditional means to check the wave of crime that is currently ravaging the state.
He advised them as leaders to develop a clear blueprint that will offer a lasting solution to address the rise in crime and social vices in the state. The Benin monarch gave the advice at his palace during a meeting with Enigie, chiefs and other stakeholders yesterday in Benin City.
Represented by the Iyase of Benin Kingdom, Chief Sam Igbe, he condemned the increasing cases of kidnapping, armed robbery and other social vices in the state, stating that all hands must be on deck to stamp out the unwholesome trends. He urged the traditional rulers and chiefs to brace up to the challenge by employing traditional means to tackle the crime rates in the state.
It will be recalled that within two weeks, Edo State has witnessed series of kidnap cases and increasing armed robbery and killings across the three senatorial zones of the state, including the kidnap of Mr. Andrew Ehanire, younger brother to the Minster of State for Health, Dr. Osagie Ehanire and Benin-based musician, Ambassador Osayomore Joseph”
