Varsity student, Lara Nosiru, commits suicide under influence of drugs

Lara Nosiru, a  student at Bristol University, England, who jumped to her death from a bridge was under the influence of drugs, officials have disclosed.

The 23-year-old, “extremely bright” final year student of neuroscience had taken a large number of sleeping tablets and some LSD when she jumped off Clifton Suspension Bridge in Bristol, the coroner has concluded.


She went there with fellow Bristol University student, Kasumi Kishi, who told police she had hoped to convince her not to kill herself.

Two days later, Ms Kishi told friends over a pizza how she and Ms Nosiru had discussed suicide methods and killing themselves together.

Prosecutors examined the case to see if charges of assisting in suicide or manslaughter for gross negligence could be brought against Kishi, but decided there was no case to answer.

CCTV footage showed the two women walking across the famous bridge shortly before 4pm on January 30, with Nosiru occasionally stopping and looking over the edge.

When they reached the North Somerset side, Nosiru twice tried to climb on to the wall above the gorge edge, but Kishi pulled her back down.

The two women then appeared to have a minor disagreement before Kishi walked away and left her without looking back.

Security cameras showed Nosiru having a final cigarette before climbing onto the wall and falling to her death.

Detective Sergeant, Nick Lawson, told the coroner that she allegedly told Kishi “You’ll have to let me go.”

While the deceased’s mum Olu, 50, from South Ockendon, Essex, blasted Kishi, saying: “She could have saved her,” the coroner ruled that she had no direct involvement in her friend’s death.

Avon and Somerset Coroner, Dr. Peter Harrowing, concluded: “She took her own life whilst under the influence of drugs.”
