Nick Carter accused of raping former 'Dream' member Melissa Schuman: He denies this
Melissa Schuman, formerly of the short-lived girl group Dream, claims Backstreet Boys singer, Nick Carter raped her back in 2002.
The alleged assault occurred when she was 18 and he was 22. She detailed the incident in a blog post.
Melissa wrote that she and a friend were invited to Nick’s apartment during a day off from the movie they were filming together, The Hollow. Melissa, who said she was a virgin at the time, claimed that Nick then brought her into a bathroom and they started kissing.
That’s when she says he removed her pants and ignored her pleas for him to stop. She claimed he performed oral sex on her and then demanded she do the same for him.
“My thought was the only way to get out was to get him to finish what he had started,” Melissa wrote in her blog post. “That’s where I saw myself, my reflection, watching myself do something that I was sickened by. Watching myself be assaulted, forced to engage in an act against my will.”
It was after that moment she claims Nick took her into a bedroom and forced intercourse. She claimed that she feared jeopardizing her career if she spoke out about the encounter.
Melissa considered pressing charges against Nick after it happened, but was told she “would likely be buried in humiliation, accused of being fame hungry, and it would ultimately hurt me professionally as well as publicly.”
Nick Carter vehemently denies allegations that he raped former Dream singer Melissa Schuman.
His denial comes a day after Melissa claimed in a blog post that Nick forced himself on her in 2002.
“I am shocked and saddened by Ms. Schuman’s accusations,” Nick said in a statement.“Melissa never expressed to me while we were together or at any time since that anything we did was not consensual.”
“We went on to record a song and perform together, and I was always respectful and supportive of Melissa both personally and professionally,” he continued. “This is the first that I am hearing about these accusations, nearly two decades later. It is contrary to my nature and everything I hold dear to intentionally cause someone discomfort or harm.”
Melissa has yet to respond to his denial.
