One man killed, five others injured in shooting after a funeral in New Orleans

One man has been killed while five others were injured in a shooting at a funeral party, in the area of Forstall Street and Burgandy street, a New Orleans neighborhood. The police said a crowd of 300 people were in the 5200 block of Burgundy when several gunshots were fired.

New Orleans Police said the shooting took place around 8pm Saturday in an area where a large crowd gathered. Police said five males and a woman were found on the street and sidewalk with apparent gunshot wounds to the body. The five who were shot had injuries that were not life threatening.

Authorities responded after receiving several reports about several men running around the neighborhood with guns.

The victims were between the ages of 24 to 30 years old.

Police said an alleged disagreement led to the shooting that took place during a party after a funeral.
Multiple people at the scene told a journalist that the gunfire erupted as a funeral second-line was being held in the area in memory of Eddie Celestine, who was fatally shot Nov. 1 in the 6800 block of Cindy Place in New Orleans East. Celestine was killed on the same street where NOPD Officer Marcus McNeil was slain in the line of duty on Oct. 13.

People at the scene Saturday also described police being close enough to the shooting when it started that officers had to seek cover behind their cruisers upon hearing the gunfire.
Police say a male died at the scene.
One person of interest is in custody. The names of the victims and suspect have not been released.
