Top basketballers including LiAngelo Ball, caught stealing sunglasses from an LV store in China

LiAngelo Ball, Cody Riley and Jalen Hill are out of Chinese police custody, but their troubles aren’t over yet.

The three UCLA Bruins freshmen, arrested Tuesday afternoon for allegedly shoplifting sunglasses from a Louis Vuitton store next to the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Hangzhou, China, were released on bail early Wednesday morning, according to ESPN’s Arash Markazi.

Ball, Riley and Hill were reportedly questioned by local authorities and taken to the police station in Hangzhou, where UCLA officials, among them head coach Steve Alford, stayed until the players were released.

“The players were treated with the utmost respect, kindness and professionalism at all times by the Hangzhou police,” a source told Markazi. “The players questioned were respectful at all times. None of this was confrontational.”

Alford has since reconvened with the rest of the Bruins in Shanghai, where they practiced prior to a scheduled trip to Disneyland. Ball, Riley and Hill are still in Hangzhou, where they have been told to “remain at their hotel until the legal process is over.”  There is no word yet on how long that might be.

UCLA is scheduled to play Georgia Tech in the Pac-12 China Game at Mercedes-Benz Arena in Shanghai on Saturday (Friday in the U.S. at 8:30 p.m. PT). The Bruins will then play their home opener at Pauley Pavilion against Central Arkansas on Nov. 15.
