All vehicles in Dubai are required to upgrade to new number plate designs
A new rule for motorists was announced in Dubai on Thursday by the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA).
All personal vehicles will now have to upgrade to the new number plate design by January 1, 2020. Vehicles owned by private and public sectors can change their license plates starting July 2019.
In fact, from January 1, 2019, RTA will start issuing the new redesigned vehicle number plates at the time of registration renewal. The changing of these license plates entails a one-time cost

Short plate number type will cost AED35.
Long plate number type will cost AED50.
Plate with coloured Dubai logo will cost AED35 for small and AED50 for long (if the customer owns it already), otherwise AED400 for both types (if it's a new plate number).
